  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Waterproof, good drainage
Reviewed by khike from Redding, CA on Friday, August 13, 2021
Despite the 2-star rating by someone, I purchased this Igloo cooler for its waterproof quality. In this area, it excels. I can use it with a kayak or packraft and know that river or lake water will not intrude. Also, if I’m camping on land and it’s raining, this cooler can remain outdoors unprotected with its rolled seal. I noticed right away that the top, rolled area isn’t insulated, so I took a piece of closed cell foam, cut it to shape, and I use it as insulation for the top of the cooler. This simple strategy much improves the insulating property. I appreciate the easy-to-use drain at the base for cleaning. One other feature: even after ice has melted, there is a reservoir of chilled water that keeps things cool for a couple more days. One has to make sure with this method that food items are in leak-proof bags. In summary, there are specific circumstances that make this Igloo model a good, inexpensive, relatively lightweight, choice for a cooler. It’s not for everyone, but I’m using mine a lot.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Poor ice retention

Good size and easy to carry. BUT, ice retention is very poor. I've taken this on several car camping trips now and even on the coldest trip (CA coast: foggy, in the 50s and low 60s), the longest the ice lasted was 2 days.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great outdoor beverage bucket

This arrived and was much thicker and sturdier than I expected. It holds ~30 cans and ice, or about 24 bottles. The spout on the bottom is great when you have an all day party and are constantly refilling it with drinks and ice.
