4.0 out of 5 stars. Worth the money, but still needs work.Reviewed by scotty1974 from Boulder, Colorado on Friday, September 8, 2023This is my first pair of Simms waders that I've purchased as I've been a Redington fan, but I thought I'd change to Gore-Tex to make it easier to find pin holes. I bought the L/S that was previously available here and just had the chance to break them out. I'm not sure if the model has change since I bought mine. First off taking them out of the box they felt durable and tough. I get a lot of days on the water and I need something that will hold up to a lot of abuse and bush wacking. Now they ARE indeed tough, but that comes with a price. They are warm. That will be great this winter, but fishing late summer ice cold alpine streams with higher air temps, you're gonna sweat. A LOT. The breathable lightweight upper is a nice touch, , but don't expect any waterproof pockets for phone or keys.
I'm not sure about this model, but it only has one pocket and you have to buy an attachment set up that zips into your waders to add more room. It costs extras and has some nice features, but comes unzipped and having to buy it is lame.
The waders seem to get dirty quickly. It might be the color, but I'd look down and see all kinds of stains on the legs. Maybe it's the materials as it's not as noticeable when they are dry, but looks like they'll require a little more hosing down to make the Gore-Tex stay effective and not clog the membrane.
Ok BIG COMPLAINT here. Again might just be the model I purchased, but there are just two flimsy belt loops in the back positioned on top of each other. The belt is a key safety feature used to keep water out of the lower portion of your waders and turning them into an anchor. I'm not sure if they added two of the loops for a height thing or just because I expect them to rip at some point or to save weight, but I'd expect more for the price. Not a belt that will shift around or have both ends hanging loose if you don't clip the belt every single time. And maybe a better belt too. Just sayin'.
Final complaint. I thought the neoprene over-booties were a nice touch to protect the lower portion of your waders as all my others have holes in them. And that's still the case, but they will catch ANY wayward fly that comes in contact with them. Nothing like trying to get a sz. 22 out of your ankle cuff in moving water.
Overall I like them. I expect to get a lot of years out of them, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price. If your looking for a solid mid-level wader without a lot of bells and whistles, these will fit the bill.
