5.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent Buy

Purchased this to take camping in January, and have used it so far at home over the summer to grill marshmallows and make s'mores. This stove heats fast and stays very warm for a long time. The craftsmanship is high quality and it is not flimsy at all.
It is NOT a bundle however, so if that is what is drawing you in to buy, be careful of that.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Solo Stove Basic Grill 22

Overall, the Solo Stove Grill is an excellent charcoal grill, once you learn its unique cooking characteristics. I grew up with charcoal grills, mostly Weber, and the Solo grill is like a high performance grill in comparison that cooks hotter with less effort thus easier and faster. The issue is that it cooks hotter than expected with the same amount of charcoal so until you learn the characteristics, it's easy to overcook your food. The good side to this is once you get the hang of it, you can use less charcoal yet cook faster. Once the charcoal is ashed over, the Solo grill really requires minimal management for cooking due to the design that maintains high heat and airflow. The charcoal also burns out far more completely in the Solo grill.
When not in use, it looks neat, just like their firepits. The build quality is excellent and there is nothing that feels cheap or flimsy about it. The lower height is also neat as it facilitates people sitting around it like a fireplace rather than standing in front of a grill in a corner, delegated to lonely grill duty. Ironically, the "Solo" grill is better for communal grilling.

I'm giving it 4 stars because it does require a bit of a learning curve to use optimally. It also came with a carrying bag though it's not really portable because the legs don't fold at all. It's also about 40lbs, which isn't lightweight. A weatherproof cover would have been a much better included accessory. Lastly, it appears the Solo Stove grill was discontinued.
  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. This taught me a lesson about Solo

I bought this and was looking forward to using it... until I proceeded to assemble. The grill had defective parts (i.e. $5 bolts and fasteners). So, thinking that Solo has a reputation for being a great customer focused company, I called their customer support to see if they could send me a new hardware kit. I was bluntly told that because a) I did not buy the unit directly from Solo and bought it from Sierra and b) they decided to discontinue this grill at the end of 2022... that the 'Lifetime Warranty' (boldly printed on the outside of the box) no longer applied. Wait, What??? I'll keep that in mind and never ever buy a Solo product - and will make sure my outdoor enthusiast friends and family know this info. Luckily, Sierra took it back and I learned a lesson about Solo - I'll never ever buy any of their products.

More detail on the flaw. You'll only understand this part if you've tried to assemble one. Both 'yokes' (little three pointed metal pieces that hold the legs together) had poor threads that did not fit the included bolts properly. The bolts went in slightly but then got stuck and wouldn't turn in or out. Eventually, two bolts sheared off and broke in the yokes. All I needed was a new hardware kit. Solo said I should pound sand cause I dared to buy anywhere but Solo directly. So any of the Solos you see at Sierra, Costco, Ace Hardware, etc... they can choose not to warranty the item even though the Lifetime Warranty is plainly stated as a marketing enticement on the packaging. Boo.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Grill is good, description is not

Great price but says the grill cover and utensil set is too. But they are not. And from what I saw, a lot of these shipped with a bag of charcoal from solo stove. The grill gets 5 stars, but look up reviews so you understand what this grill will do and not do. It's a good price for a solid grill but not described correctly.
