  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. BD ReMoji

A very compact lantern with a lot of neat features. The lantern has a fade setting from high to low so you can set the desired brightness. It also has an ideal neutral tint that is neither too cold white nor too warm and yellow. The lantern also has a multicolor mode that allows you to set the desired color and brightness.
Construction is solid thus the product feels sturdy. It’s also smaller than the Moji lantern that uses replaceable batteries. This is ideal for the person seeking a compact and lightweight lantern.

The downside is the higher price and the fact that this is only rated to IPX4, which is rain resistant. I don’t see a reason why this item at this price could not be IPX7 thus truly waterproof.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Really good with one minor flaw

Overall, this is a really good headlamp. I bought it for night hikes. It is *super* bright (blindingly so on its highest setting). This is a four (4) AAA battery light, so be aware that it's a little heavier than most head lamps (most typically use 3 AAA batteries). The plus is that you've got longer battery life and a very bright light. The minus is a bit more weight than is typical. However, that's not the minor flaw I mentioned in the review title. The minor flaw is this: When on spotlight (narrow beam) mode, there's a thin peripheral ring of light that hits the ground just in front of my feet as I walk. This is really annoying. It feels like some kind of after image or something, and it's distracting. The little ring of light probably could be blocked out by a strip of duct tape, and it's not a big deal because, if I'm walking, I'm going to normally use the flood light (wide beam) mode so that I have good all around vision. It's just annoying.

I have not yet tested the storm worthiness of this light yet, but reviews I've read rate it highly, and I note that there's a little clamp that closes the battery door such that it really battens things down, so I'm confident in its basic storm worthiness.

The various colored lights are a nice feature. Red seems to be the lowest setting and does seem to preserve night vision well. I definitely like using red light at night, particularly if my tent partner is sleeping. The green light is brighter than the blue or red lights and is reasonably good for night walks on something fairly easy like a dirt road. The green light is a nice option for just enough brightness to be able to walk well without totally degrading one's night vision. I haven't tested the map readability of the various colors but supposedly green is better for map reading than red light (unless you have one of the specialized "red light readable" military maps). Green is certainly brighter than the red setting.

Minor criticisms: 1. The "feature" where one can touch a spot on the rim of the headlamp and the light will then go instantly to maximum intensity really isn't useful. Too often I touch it by accident and am blinded as a result. I'd rather just adjust the brightness using the buttons. The buttons are less likely to be accidentally triggered. 2. The directions are mainly illustrations. While I understand that illustrations are universal (not language specific) and applaud BD's saving of paper, the illustrations are not always clear. For example, pressing both buttons simultaneously locks something -- but it's not entirely clear what is being locked. The mode? The intensity? Yes, online reviews and such are available so you can figure it out, but I'd like the instructions to be clear without having to have an internet connection.

I own quite a bit of Black Diamond apparel and size small is what always fits me (5'8"/125 pounds) in their stuff. If anything, I find their clothes to fit on the trim/slim side compared to most other brands. I'm small chested and this tank in a size small is gappy in the armpits/chest area, so the fit is a little weird. I don't know if they've changed sizing or if it's just this tank. I have other BD tanks that fit great. Also, the organic cotton is nice to have, but not particularly soft, even after washing.
