Made of high-quality stainless and carbon steels, Morakniv knives are an excellent choice for hunting, fishing and general-purpose use, and Morakniv knives have been crafted in Ostnor, Sweden for more than a century. Although the structure of the company has evolved over the years, a long-standing commitment to creating incredible blades at a great value remains the bedrock of the Morakniv name. Today, every Morakniv knife is still manufactured in Sweden using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods. The result is a series of simple, reliable cutting tools that are made to last and available at a fantastic price point.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Great knife, great valueReviewed by RipCords from MN on Sunday, January 28, 2024Happy to see Sierra selling some of these. Great knife for camping, outdoors, even kitchen prep. You will not find a better knife for the price. Super sharp and polished out of the box. Sandvik stainless steel and Scandi grind is awesome. The knife I received is stainless steel, not carbon steel, but I'm a big fan of Mora's stainless steel. This is my 2nd Morakniv companion, 5th Morakniv I own.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Best knife bargain hereReviewed by Crunchmeister from Oregon on Saturday, September 23, 2023If you know the brand, I don’t need to say much. But if you don’t, just Google it and check out everything everyone has to say. It doesn’t look like much, but it is lightweight, ergonomic, holds a great edge and is easy to sharpen. It’s far tougher than it looks. It’s made in Sweden out of high quality carbon steel. It is not stainless and will need to be cared for accordingly - I recommend mineral oil after a forced vinegar patina. If you want something stainless and easily cared for, get one of the stainless models that ends up here from time to time. The stainless model is just a little harder to sharpen, doesn’t hold an edge quite as long and is a little less tough. Don’t waste your money on the cheap flashy stuff from China - it’s junk that is more fragile, doesn’t take an edge as well nor hold it as long and won’t serve you as well. For less than $8 for a knife made in Sweden, you can’t go wrong!
P.S. this is a great first knife for a child - far safer than a folder. -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Great bang for your buck!Reviewed by Crunchmeister from Oregon on Thursday, December 23, 2021The 511 is the cheapest of the Moras. Even, symmetric grinds and shaving sharp, like almost all my other Moras. The steel is classic basic carbon steel, easy to sharpen and holds an edge fairly well. It’s very clean Swedish steel, free from contaminants, unlike Chinese steels, which not only makes it perform well, but makes it less likely to chip out or fracture. Since it’s carbon steel and not stainless, it will rust if not maintained with a little mineral oil, but, unlike stainless, it will spark with a piece of flint or certain other types of stone to start a fire. The toyish plastic handle might feel cheap and, yes, keeps the cost down, but it is quite comfortable and ergonomic and protects bare hands from freezing in very cold weather. The sheath is perhaps ugly but functional and can attach to a button in colder weather so you can carry it outside of your coat instead of having to dig underneath to find it on your belt. The unsharpened spine on this model (its primary purpose is for construction, not bushcraft and striking a ferro rod) is easily remedied with a file, grinder or Dremel. The Scandinavian, or “scandi”, grind is easily sharpened as you just lay the flat leading up to the edge on a stone and sharpen away - no trying to maintain a secondary grind like other types of edges. Another plus is that, despite being crazy inexpensive, it’s made in Sweden by people making a living wage, not by slave labor in China.
