  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Great Product. Misleading Weight Description

This thing is a beast. Most people who purchase this are probably doing so for air travel of some kind. First off, Sportube makes a quality product. Super thick plastic and simple mechanics for how it stays together, so this review is not about that. The issues with the Series 3 is the weight. The description on Sierra AND Sportube's website claims that is can fit up to 3 pairs of adult skis and poles or 2 adult skis and poles and 2 junior skis. I was attempting to do the latter, so 4 sets of skis total. First off, there are tons of videos for how to pack this thing. However, there are not videos for attempting the 2 adult skis and 2 junior skis. You have to trial and error that one.

Internal to the Series 3, unlike the Series 2, there are no velcro straps from keeping the skis from bouncing around on the inside.

Now to the weight, both Sierra and Sportube's website claim that the weight is 14 lbs. Well, they rounded down. It's 14.9 lbs, so call it 15. Then, they say you can fit 2 adult skis AND 2 junior skis. While you may be able to fit both, no airline is going to just take it as is. So, I loaded up my 2 adult and 2 junior skis into the Series 3, and the weight was 53.9 lbs. That's 4 lbs. over what an airline will accept without either charging me more for it or rejecting it and telling me I need to take something out of it.

Again, this is just an airline issue, and everyone will have different great requirements for what is fitting inside, but I also have to think that once you stuff a jack or something else soft in there to keep things from rattling, you're going to add even more weight.

Love the concept, just wish they were more realistic for weight considerations.

This bag appears to be well constructed, well padded, and manufactured with quality materials. The zipper, handles, straps, and case all seem to be substantial. I look forward to the winter to see how well it works.
